Abstract
Unilateral sinus have lesions a variety of causes which include congenital choanal atresia, foreign body of the nasal cavity, antrochoanal polyp, mycotic sinusitis, space occupying lesions and so on. Mycotic sinusitis has increased among the
immunosuppressed patients or healthy persons. Some cases of facial trauma or tumors of the paranasal sinuses may cause unilateral sinuses may cause unilateral sinusitis in terms of clinical manifestations or radiologic findings.
To establish the differential diagnostic points for unilateral sinus lesions, we analyzed 978 cases of unilateral sinus lesions collected through available nation-wide hospital survey in terms of clinical features.
The most common cause was nonspecific inflammation of the paranasal sinuses(535 cases, 54.2%). Other causes included inverted papilloma(90 cases, 9.2%), maxillary carcinoma(89 cases, 9.1%), fungal sinusitis(87 cases, 8.9%) and antrochoanal
polyp(42
cases, 4.3%).
